Beginning success story of the Euromillions

On February 13, 2004 – so on a Friday, the 13th – the time had come: The first Euromillions draw started. At that time, however, only three countries participated in Euromillions: France, Great Britain and Spain. The first drawn figures were 16, 29, 32, 36 and 41 as well as Lucky 7 and Lucky 9. The jackpot, filled up with fifteen million euros, was cracked at the first draw and went to France.

Because of the great success, on October 8, 2014, half a dozen other European countries joined the multi-national lottery. These were Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal and Switzerland. In 2004, players were able to be glad about hitting the jackpot thirteen times – thanks to a win in the first rank with five correct numbers and two correct lucky stars. Six times the profits went to France and five times to Spain. Although the UK belonged to the Euromillions founding members, only one jackpot winded up in the United Kingdom and one in Portugal.
