Euromillions May 2004
French hit the jackpot twice
The May 2004 was a really good month for the French participants in the multi-national lottery Euromillions. Because of the four draws that took place in the month of May, the jackpot could be cracked twice – and both times the main win went to France. The win was particularly spectacular on 14 May 2004. Because no player had correctly guessed all five numbers and two lucky stars in the last draws, the jackpot grew to the previous record number of 33,816,137 euros.
But this time, exactly one ticket showed all the right lucky numbers and lucky stars – namely 1, 3, 21, 32, 39 as well as Lucky Star 2 and Lucky Star 6. The jackpot was given to a retired couple and their child, who lived in Carmaux, a municipality in the Tarn department in the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France. It was not until more than half a year before record winnings of more than 33.8 million could be exceeded in a Euromillions draw.
The jackpot was cracked again on 21 May 2004 – and again the profit went to France. Lucky numbers were 15, 29, 37, 39 and 49 as well as Lucky Star 4 and Lucky Star 9. Because the jackpot had been cracked in the draw before, the winner had to be content with the minimum amount of 10 million euros.
