Stories of Euromillions winners 2014

The so far highest euromillions win in Austria
Tuesday, 19.08.2014: The biggest success in the history of Austria went to a man from the state of Tyrol on Tuesday, 19 August 2014. He cracked the jackpot and won more than 54 million euros. It was the man's third bet, which had been generated by a computer. His bet was just 7.20 euros. The man reported to the Austrian lottery association the day after the draw, and seemed surprisingly calm and relaxed on the phone.
To avoid an unnecessary hype about his person, he preferred to remain anonymous. At the time of the announcement, it was not known whether he wanted to use consultancy service for big winners offered by the Lotto company. On average, it takes about 4 weeks for the profit to land on the account of the lucky fellow.
In Austria, lottery winnings need not be taxed, just like in Germany. The lottery association advises, however, to use a professional investment advice.
The biggest euromillions jackpot ever
Friday, 24.10.2014: A gambler from Portugal had great luck in the Euromillions draw on Friday and won the highest possible amount. The jackpot was filled with the fabulous sum of 190 million euros. The winner comes from the small town of Castelo Branco in Central Portugal near the Spanish border. He wanted to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. An equally high jackpot went to a British couple in 2012.
In the Euromillions lottery, Portugal is one of the nations with the most jackpot winners and is on a par with populous nations like France, Spain and the UK. This is all the more surprising given the fact that Portugal has only 10 million inhabitants, only a little more than the population of London. Within a year and a half, the Euromillions jackpot was cracked three times in Portugal. Experts are also puzzling over this phenomenon and believe that the Portuguese play lotto because of the poor economic situation in the country and many hope to become rich overnight.
