Euromillions in Portugal
Euromillions – Euromilhões in Portugal – was founded in February 2004 and since then has not only thrilled the Portuguese but also many other Europeans. In October 2004, Portugal was also included in the lottery, which is run by the Catholic organization Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa as a licensee, which donates many of the generated revenues to aid organizations in this country.
Rules
As in any lottery in Portugal, the participants must be at least 18 years old and winnings over 5,000 euros are taxed. Currently, the Portuguese tax is 20 percent. For each betting field 2 euros and for complete ticket 10 euros are charged. The Portuguese Euromilhões ticket contains an additional field for the lottery game Joker.
Statistics
Portugal, with 55 jackpots, is currently in third place for most of the jackpot winnings. On 24 October 2014, a Portuguese won the highest jackpot ever paid out by Euromillions - 190 million euros. Considerable numbers for such a small country. For that reason this lottery is one of the most played in Portugal, with these high jackpots no surprise.
